Kariya Delegation Part 2: Farewell

Kariya Delegation Part 2: Farewell

After all the festivities from Canada Day, everyone deserved a good rest on Saturday, which was a free day for all the delegates and the host families. I on the other hand, had to returned to work at the library. T__T

Sunday was the official ‘Farewell’ Party. While it technically wasn’t the last day for the delegates, it was a good time for everyone to have one last group dinner together. Dinner was held at the Port Credit Yacht Club, which is one of the most gorgeous places in Mississauga.

I decided I would wear an yukata over to the club. However, it wasn’t the smartest thing to do, since I looked a little ridiculous in the car wearing a yukata. I also learned that I couldn’t drive with the obi tied behind me, so it was a bit of a hassle taking it off and putting it back on on my own. It was also embarrassing when I got out of the car, since everyone at the yacht club was wearing shorts. I probably looked like a spectacle in the parking lot!

Luckily once I got inside it didn’t seem as awkward. Some of the ladies were wearing their yukatas, while I spotted a few men wearing their happi coats. Everyone was chatting with each other as we sipped on cocktails. After a while we all sat down for dinner. The food at the yacht club was so yummy! The only downside was the constant tightening of my yukata with every bit I took. That should be a reminder for me to never wear a yukata if I plan to eat. =P

After dessert everyone turned their attention to the front where the delegates performed for us. They sang the national anthems, as well as some classics like ‘Furusato’. Everyone started to get teary as it neared the end. All the delegates also stepped up individually to give their final thoughts on their time in Mississauga. It was wonderful hearing how much their enjoyed their Canadian experiences.

As the night was nearing to an end, everyone stepped outside for photos. The sun was starting to set by the lake, so we had some great shots out on the patio. So great to be surrounded by new friends. I hope they enjoyed their stay in Mississauga!

  1. Great to finally see the Canada celebrations – it looks like it was a great day. (shame about the 4 cameras by the way… I’m hoping that most of them were P&S… otherwise it must have been getting a little crowded).

So… now to start planning for the next trip over.

    1. We had a pretty nice celebration for Canada Day! Only my camera was the SLR. Luckily the others weren’t as bulky. =P
