Singapore Zoo & Night Safari
After a long day of travels, we finally had a good rest once we made it back to our hotel. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel lobby, then grabbed our bags and made our way out. Our first stop that day was to Orchard. Once we arrived at Orchard and got our MRT passes sorted, we walked over to Kinokuniya where we spent a small fortune on books. Afterwards we browsed through Takashimaya and some of the other shops along Orchard Avenue. There wasn’t a lot to buy, so we decided to head towards our hotel and grab lunch at Maxwell.
I was surprised Maxwell was so busy on a weekday. It didn’t occur to me that there were so many people working in the area. We managed to find a seat first, then it was off to find the Hainanese chicken stall. It took my sis about 20 minutes to line up for a plate of Hainanese chicken rice. But for $3, we had no reason to complain. =)
I wanted to try something different this time, so I purposely picked a stall with the longest lineup. It turned out to be a noodle stall. Aside from having the longest line up, it also had the slowest moving line, but I was amazed because there were more people who lined up after me. When I finally got my bowl of noodles, my sister was already done eating. I took my time to savour each bite while she went on a hunt for something else to eat. =P
I was pretty happy already with the food, so I bought myself a cup of bubble tea to finish it off. Only $1! What a steal. As always, Maxwell Centre does not disappoint. As we were preparing to leave, we noticed it was pouring rain outside. Since we didn’t have an umbrella, we had to make a dash back to the hotel. Luckily, it only rains for half hour stretches in Singapore, so we weren’t too wet. After drying off and resting a little, we headed back out and made our way to the Singapore Zoo.
The Singapore Zoo was quite far from where we were staying. We took the MRT to the closest station, then bused the remainder of the way. It was already mid afternoon when we arrived, so we did a quick tour inside. It was still a little damp in the air, but it was really relaxing walking through the zoo. One of the highlights at the zoo were the elephants. I don’t think I’ve ever been on a elephant before, so I was tempted to go for an elephant ride. It was a little pricey, but I had a lot of fun. =)
We tried to get through as many exhibits as we could before it closed for the night. As we made our way back to the front, we ended up posing for a photo with the elephants we rode on earlier in the day!
Afterwards, we headed back out to grab dinner by the entrance. There wasn’t a huge selection in the stall outside. My sis bought a bowl of laksa noodles and a kopi iced shake. I decided to go inside the KFC to see what they have. I ended up buying a zinger chicken burger. Do they have those in Canada??
After we finished eating, we walked over to the Night Safari and waited in line to board the tram. It was slowly getting darker while we waited. Once we boarded the tram we were told not to use the flash on the animals, so I wasn’t able to get any photos inside. When the train started to move, the guide would announce the animals we were seeing along the way. I was actually surprised by the open concept of the night safari. The tram allowed us to get really close. It probably would have been more scary exploring on foot!
We got off at the midway point and headed over to the Leopard Trail. It was pitch black by then, so with only minimal lighting, it really felt like we were on an exotic safari adventure. My only dislike were the bats inside one of the exhibits. One flew right past my head! The staff person was probably amused by my scream. (>.<;) After exploring the Leopard Trail, we caught back on the tram and headed to the front. It was getting late and we already had a long day, so we decided to skip the shows and head back. Towards the exit, we stopped for a 5 minute fish reflexology session, which we had paid for with our tickets. Even though I tried it last year, I couldn't help but giggle at the fish biting my feet. We caught the bus back to the nearest station and bought some late night dessert at Mr. Bean, which is a soya bean chain. I got a red bean pancake for myself, while my sister got the beancurd with tang yuan. It was really yummy! Great end to a long day.

I’m looking forward to eating Singaporean food next year! Chicken rice looks delicious. How does laksa taste like?
How much did you pay for the elephant ride? I’d like to ride too if my budget permits. =D
Chicken rice! I could eat 10 plates of that. Laksa is a little spicy, but it’s really yummy.
I think it was $8 SGD for the ride. I hope it’s in your budget. =P
