Osaka

I had my longest train ride for this trip as I needed to make the nearly 4-hour journey back to Osaka. I woke up super early again, had breakfast, then took the tram to Matsuyama Station. A quick side note: I loved how some of the trams were fully decked out as mikan denshas. Not only was the exterior coloured in orange, even the handle straps inside the trams were decorated with mandarins. Such a fun specialty of the Ehime region!

I ended up getting to Matsuyama Station almost an hour early, so I took my time scoping out the exact bento and snacks I wanted to buy for the trip. I settled on the nanban chicken and mikan daifuku before boarding the train. I can’t say there was anything exciting about the train ride, but there were some great views, especially crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge.

I made it to Shin-Osaka around 1:00pm, then to Namba for my hotel, where I dropped my bags off. Later I walked to the Namba Yasaka Shrine, which had been on my list for a while. It was fun to see it in person, but there were so many tourists inside that I snapped some photos quickly and left.

I went back to Namba Parks and Namba City for some shopping and waited in line at HARBS for dessert. I’m such a sucker for HARBS – maybe because it’s from Nagoya or maybe because their desserts are just that good, but I waited nearly an hour for a table. However their apple mango mousse cake definitely did not disappoint.

Afterwards I stopped at the nearby kitchenware street to look for some plates and bowls. It’s unbelievable how these stores fill their aisles to the brim with goods. Once my backpack got significantly heavier from my purchases, I decided to head back to the hotel to check in. As it was my last night in Japan, I wanted to have my fill of sushi for dinner, so I walked over to Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera for my last meal. I lost count of the amount of plates I ate, but the bill was definitely more expensive than I had wanted it to be. I ended the night shopping at Shinsaibashi before returning to the hotel.
