A Little Tour Down Under

A Little Tour Down Under

Back from another vacation! It’s definitely the longest I’ve travelled by distance – over 15,000 km to Sydney, Australia from Toronto. I flew 6 flight segments in total during this trip, spending over two full days in the air. To put that in another perspective, I watched 7 full length featured films while flying, not including the time I spent sleeping or eating. It’s crazy how I managed to do this in under two weeks. The first day of travels was getting to Sydney via a stopover in Hong Kong. We departed on our Cathay Pacific flight around midnight, then landed in HKG at the crack of dawn. While waiting at the airport, we were able to grab breakfast at the food court, so I got my fill of wonton noodles and macaroni soup. Then it was another 9 hours before making it to Sydney in the evening.

I did enjoy flying with Cathay this time, as the price was actually cheaper than booking with Air Canada, plus they gave two checked bags. I also preferred having a stopover to break up the flight, although in honesty I had to keep eating to make sure I had enough energy to plough through. I think I had about three congees for breakfast on my flights (fish, minced pork and preserved vegetables). They also had a good dim sum set, HK milk tea and their Betsy craft beer. I learned that it was okay to bother the flight attendants to request additional snacks between mealtimes, as I asked for their Cup Noodles and egg tarts on more than one occasion (refer to note above about needing energy).

By the time we got our luggage and made it to the arrival hall at Kingsford Smith Airport, we beelined for a taxi to take us to our hotel. I was able to go to sleep right away, which made it easier to help with the jet lag. More posts to come with the actual start of my vacation later!
