East Coast Wrap Up

East Coast Wrap Up

After waking up the next day, we spent the better part of the morning tour the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. The indoor exhibits spread between three floors of the building and included an aquarium. There were also two vessels outside we could visit which came along with our admission tickets.

Once we finished at the museum, we took a tour around the town and explored our options for lunch. Since I already had my fair share of lobster on the trip, I really wanted to eat clams. We finally settled on a place called Fish Shack for lunch. We first waited in line to place our order, then found a spot outside on their patio. They give you a little buzzer shaped like a lobster to let you know when the food is ready. Aside from getting a bucket of clams, we also got breaded scallops and fish and chips. The food was really yummy so I highly recommend going.

Later that afternoon we decided to take a small detour and head towards Ovens Natural Park. It wasn’t on our list of places to go, but a friend of ours highly recommended going, so we decided to fit it in our schedule. I was so happy we went because the sea caves at Ovens were absolutely stunning. I think we spent a little over an hour doing the Cave Trail walking tour. We saw a lot of campers along the way and there is even a lot for RV parking.

Ovens

After leaving Ovens, we drove straight towards our final must-see attraction – Peggy’s Cove. Peggy’s Cove is literally in the middle of nowhere and I don’t understand why so many people make the drive out just to see the lighthouse. I would agree that the area is really nice, but the lighthouse itself was just…a lighthouse. Lol. However I didn’t really complain too much as I got to eat ice cream while leisurely exploring the area for 30 minutes. =P

After a really long day of travels, we finally made it back to Halifax and returned our rental car. For dinner that evening we met up with Milja and her boyfriend Milos who just so happened to be traveling in Halifax at the same time. It was cool that we got to hang out together during our last night in the city.

For our final morning in Halifax, we started the day touring the Halifax Public Gardens. The garden spans 16-acres and has retain much of its Victorian feel from when it first opened in 1867.

After leaving the gardens we passed by the Halifax Central Library, which was unfortunately closed that day. The design looked so high tech that it reminded me of the one in Seattle. For lunch we got pho and bahn mi at a nearby restaurant and ate outside on their patio.

Finally we headed towards the airport and wrapped up our East Coast trip. I was really happy that I finally managed to visit the Maritimes after living in Canada for so many years. While I haven’t visited all the provinces and territories yet, it was a goal of mine to at least travel to both ends of the country. I’m grateful that I got to make the trip happen before moving to Japan for the year. =)
