Tokyo!!

Tokyo!!

Flying to Tokyo the next morning, I had to get up at 5:15 to take the taxi to Central. My uncle was heading to work for a morning shift, so I ended up tagging along with him to the airport. After getting checked in, I had around two hours to kill before my flight. I ended up going lounge hopping. (The last chance to use my elite status before it expired at the end of February). I went to the Singapore Airlines lounge first to grab breakfast. Midway through eating I noticed that everyone had cleared out, and I ended up being the only one left in the lounge. It was a little dreary inside, so I went over to the Thai Airways lounge, which is on the opposite end of the terminal. Thai Airways was so nice in comparison! It was spacious and colourful with lots of natural lighting. I ended up eating breakfast for a second time. Hehe.

Soon afterwards it was time for boarding, so I said my last goodbye to HK. I was flying ANA this time and the flight was pretty good. I ended up watching Tsunahiichatta on the plane, which was an extra bonus. We got to Narita on schedule and I took the N’Ex at 3:15 towards Shinjuku. I was a little hesitant to pay to get my bags delivered, so I ended up lugging it up and down the escalators at boths stations and dragging it all the way to my hotel. Somehow I made it there without breaking my arms in the process. =P

Once I arrived at the lobby, Krista was already there! It was really nice that our schedules matched because we got to hang out together in Tokyo. It was also good because I always felt less gaijin when we were together. LOL. I’ll get to those stories in the next entry.

After getting checked in, we unloaded all our bags upstairs. Krista already had plans to watch a movie on her own, and I was due to meet Nami in about an hour. Since we didn’t have any means of communication, we decided to meet back at the hotel once we were done. However I was a little worried if she would remember how to get back on her own. Hehe.

At around 6:30 I met Nami at Shinjuku Station. It was really nice to finally meet her after hearing about her for so long. We took the train over to Tokyo Sky Tree and bought tickets up to the first observation deck. As we were buying tickets they already warned us that with the current weather conditions we probably wouldn’t get a good view of the city. Once we took the elevators up we noticed the majority of the view was blocked. It was super foggy!! However it was really cool being up so high and we were lucky that the fog started to clear while we were there. We spent about an hour in the observation deck before heading back to ground level.

Then we were on a hunt for food! We actually noticed a dessert buffet on the way to Sky Tree, but we were thinking it would be better to get an actual dinner before eating dessert. We ended up eating a bowl of udon first so it wouldn’t ruin our appetite, then we headed over to the dessert buffet. I’ve always dreamed of going to a dessert buffet in Asia and it was exactly as I imagined it would be. The cakes, puddings, macaroons and pies were soooo yummy!! There was actually another section that served dinner items like pasta and rice, so we could have gotten our entire meal there if we wanted to. The price of the buffet was 2,400 yen, but it was only 100 yen more to add drinks. Nami and I both had two plates each and two cups of tea. My favourite was the strawberry shortcake and the mango coconut mousse cake. It was heavenly!

Later that evening Nami was thinking of meeting friends for a drink out in Roppongi. I wasn’t sure if Krista was back from her movie, so we made a stop at the hotel first. After waiting for Krista, we all hopped on a taxi towards Roppongi. I forget the name of the bar now, but I finally experienced my first gaijin bar. I won’t go into much details, but let’s just say one visit was more than enough for me. LOL. By the time Krista and I took a taxi back, it was nearing 1:30am. I had an extremely long day already so it was great to finally stretch out and head to bed. =)
