Perfect Day at CocoCay
Day 2 was our first port of call in the Bahamas. I’m glad we started off with CocoCay because it was my least favourite out of all the ports we visited. While I did appreciate the beaches, the island didn’t have much local charm as it’s owned by the Royal Caribbean Group exclusively for use by their guests. Honestly some parts felt like an extension of the ship. However, it was very clean and the beaches were amazing, so we definitely made use of our time for some R&R.
That morning we woke up at 7am then went upstairs for breakfast. We left for CocoCay around 8am and headed straight to Chill Island. There’s actually two sides to the island – the chill side with the beach and cabanas and the thrill side with the waterpark. For those interested in the waterpark, there is an extra charge for a day pass, but we decided to skip it and spend our time leisurely at the beaches.
We were quite lucky that despite having two cruise ships on the island that day, it didn’t feel crowded at all. Once we got to Chill Island, we were able to drop off our stuff quickly and headed straight to the water. The water there was super clear. A lot of people were snorkeling, but even without the snorkels you could still see the minnows right near the edge of the water.

We lounged around for most of the morning, then made our way to Chill Grill for lunch. Aside from specialty items, all the food on the island was included as part of the cruise package. I loaded up on salads and tacos, as well as a really yummy cheeseburger. While the selection was more casual, the taste was definitely on par with the ship.
After lunch we briefly explored the Oasis Lagoon, but decided the pool and splash pads weren’t for us, so we headed over to South Beach, which was our last stop that day. Between dipping in the water and lounging on the beach chairs, there wasn’t much else to do, so I just worked hard on my tan. =P

By 3pm we made our way back to the ship to shower and unwind. For dinner that night we had it at the Cosmopolitan. That was the one night I ended up eating two appetizers and two entrees lol. We caught an early viewing of their theatre production, Stage Door, then checked out a cello performance. Since the next day was a day at sea, I ended up staying up later for their Silent Disco, which was actually a lot of fun. Overall I would say it was a great official start to our vacation!
