Korea – Part 1

Korea – Part 1

Trying to get all my entries written while my memory is still fresh. Moving on to my Korea trip – I’ve always wanted to visit the country so I was super excited before going. However, my major regret upon arriving there was choosing to go smack in the middle of winter. It was soooo cold!! Lol

After arriving at Incheon airport, we first took an airport bus to go directly to our hotel. After dropping off our bags, we ventured out to the subway station and bought our reloadable transit passes. One thing I noticed about the subway stations in Seoul was how old the infrastructure seemed. There was a disproportionate amount of stairs compared to escalators and it just seemed poorly insulated despite the temperature outside. I was also not impressed by the six flights of stairs I had to take each time I emerged from the subway exit and headed towards my hotel. (@_@)

We spent some time wandering around Dongdaemun in the afternoon. There were a few shopping centres in the area but a lot of it seemed more like flea markets than actual malls. Since there wasn’t much to buy we decided to head to dinner early. This was where my research on Korea came in handy. I didn’t bother to look up a single tourist spot but instead concentrated entirely on where/what kind of food I wanted to eat. Haha.

For dinner the first night we stopped at Tosokchon. Since they’re famous for their samgyetang ginseng chicken, we each ordered a single pot and tried both their white and black chicken. I would say the taste is more or less similar, so if you would like to save your money, just stick with the white chicken. =P

While the dish itself was really yummy, it was also super filling. I think we could have gotten by just ordering 2 or 3 chickens between the four of us. We also ordered a plate of their green onion pancake. I recommend trying it just for something different.

Day 2 coming up soon!
