Asia Tour Part 2: Hong Kong

Asia Tour Part 2: Hong Kong

A quick entry this time to summarize my HK trip. I don’t really consider myself a tourist in HK, but I’m not quite a HK-er either, so I never really know how to write about my time there. However, I guess this still deserves its own entry. =P

HK consisted of lots of yumcha (dim sum) and family dinners at home with my grandma. I don’t think I visited anywhere ‘touristy’ on this trip. The furthest I got was to Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, but most days I didn’t even make it halfway across HK Island. Heehee.

The first two days we had a routine of going for yumcha with my grandma in the morning, then shopping in the afternoon. There was hardly anywhere we wanted to go, since we had to spend at least half the day with my grandma. However, for dinner one night I met up with Nancy and Agnes at Yau Ma Tei. It was lovely seeing them again!

Saturday we were in Causeway shopping at Times Square and Sogo. (You’ll notice a common theme of yumcha + shopping.) For dinner we went out to North Point at a restaurant called 仁寶 for the most amazing seafood ever. Seriously, this was my favourite meal in HK. There was lobster noodles, garlic shrimp, the most awesome strawberry short ribs. YUM! I don’t think I’ll find the restaurant on my own, so thanks to my uncle for taking us there.

We spent three days in Singapore before coming back to HK. On Wednesday we visited my grandpa at the nursing home, then took the taxi with my grandma to Shau Kei Wan to eat noodles at On Lee Noodle Shop. One of the best bowls of noodles I’ve had. Everything was so cheap too! We saw our grandma off at the MTR station, then we headed over to Causeway for an afternoon of karaoke. =)

Thursday was our last full day in HK. My sister and I decided to splurge a little and eat at the Peninsula Hotel in TST. SOOOOO EXPENSIVE!! There were bellboys at the entrance and a Rolls Royce parked out front for their VIP guests. However, I wasn’t too impressed with their service. I ordered a club sandwich for lunch and explicitly told them not to put tomatoes in my sandwich…and the sandwich came with tomatoes!! If I was a little more nit-picky I would have returned it. =(

After lunch we walked over to the Avenue of Stars, then we took the MTR over to Central. I was meeting someone for coffee at Pacific Coffee. It was quite nice just relaxing for the rest of the afternoon. For dinner we went to 明星 with my grandma and uncle for one last meal with the family.

On our last day we finished packing and sent all our luggage over to the Central airport check-in. My uncle was off to work, so we said our goodbyes and went home to spend more time with my grandma. We visited my grandpa one last time, then had yumcha once more in Chai Wan. It’s always hard saying goodbye. However, I’m glad I was able to spend some time with them.

Sorry there’s no exciting excursions in this entry! (Also bad photos because I took them with my phone.) I’ll try to make it up once I get working on my Singapore posts. ^_^

  1. Of course – no need to apologize about the photos – as blog posts should come a very distant second anyhow. Especially when it comes to catching up with family. By the way, the photos were pretty damned impressive anyhow and certainly conveyed how yummy looking the food was. Also – definitely agree with you re: the tomatoes. At that sort of place you’d expect them to pay attention to details – and a customer request is a pretty important detail.

    1. I wish HK could have been more exciting! We didn’t even have internet at home. @_@ I had to walk over to the library every morning to use it.

I will admit though, there’s lots of yummy food in HK if you know where to look. Unfortunately, I had a lot more home cooked meals than ones eating out. Ah, the tomatoes! I’m still upset over it. I should have returned it, but I was too hungry. But I did make a point of picking them out and putting it messily back on the plate. LOL.
