Flight to Nagoya
First day of our trip to Japan. Early that morning my sis and I had dim sum for one last time with our grandma, then it was off to the bus stop to travel to the airport. While we were waiting for our flight, we had one last meal in HK. My sis ordered the Hainanese chicken rice from Cafe de Coral, while I ate wonton noodles and BBQ goose from 正斗, which cost me $203 HKD. Aside from three pieces of meat I gave my sis, I pretty much finished the entire plate off by myself. Please remind me to never attempt that again.
We took an ANA flight into Nagoya. Our plane was small and didn’t have the entertainment system built in to the front seat, so we were left to entertain ourselves for the duration of the flight. For lunch I ate their washoku set, which had a mushroom curry as the entree. ANA also has their own brand of kabosu juice which I tried for the first time. It was a pretty decent flight into Nagoya except for a bit of turbulence towards the end. (The captain kept announcing upcoming patches of turbulence to brace all the passengers, but I think those messages probably freaked people out more than the actual turbulence itself. Haha.)
After we landed we met up with our uncle, who had taken an earlier flight into Nagoya. Then we collected our Shiryudo Highway bus pass and made our way to the trains. We bought a 5-day bus pass to travel towards Kanazawa. The pass also includes a round trip ticket to the airport. However, we had to pay to upgrade our ticket in order to take the MyuSky into Nagoya.
When we finally got to Nagoya, we made our way out of the station to find our hotel. It had been almost four years since I’ve been to Nagoya. While it didn’t look much different, it took me some time to remember how to navigate through Nagoya Station. Finally we got to our hotel to drop off our bags, then it was back on foot to find food.
My sis had really wanted to try this izakaya called Torikizoku for dinner. It was on the opposite side of the station so it took us a good 15 minutes to walk over before we finally located the building. I was starting to feel a little off, but I thought maybe I was just hungry. By the time we got upstairs and seated, the cigarette smoke and the heat from the yakitori seemed to have made me feel worse. None of us were really hungry, so we just ordered a few plates of food to share between the three of us.
By the time the food arrived I was feeling realllly sick. I managed to eat one piece of gyoza before I decided that it was more than enough. I waited somewhat impatiently for my sis and uncle to finish eating, then we quickly paid and made our way down. I was feeling extremely nauseous and not well enough to make the trek back to the hotel on foot, so we had to flag a taxi to take us back. I took some medication once I got up to our room and managed to sleep it off. While it’s horrible being sick on vacation, I’m glad it was only for one night, cause I was fine the rest of the trip. It’s just too bad that I missed out on the food at Torikizoku. Sorry Okura. =P
