Harajuku

Harajuku

There wasn’t much left to do as we approached the last two days of our trip. I think I hit all the tourist spots I had originally planned out, so I was happy to backtrack a little and revisit some of the earlier locations. My sister actually hadn’t seen Harajuku yet, so that was the first spot on the day.

Well, I should really say, we had a very specific reason for going to Harajuku early in the day. I won’t go into detail here, since it’s probably more of a stupid reason than it is a specific reason…but, if anyone’s ever interested in spending an afternoon standing in line here let me know and I’ll give you the details. =)

We spent all of the morning and afternoon in Harajuku. It was nice walking down Takashita Dori again and eating the crepes from the side stalls. I also went back to Uniqlo to pick up a few more shirts, then to the Tin Tin shop I had passed by a week ago to purchase some souvenirs. I think I’ll really miss this place! Heading back to Harajuku Station, we came across this giant poster inside, which really made my day.

We headed off to Ikebukuro for dinner later that night. I suggested it because – one, my sister hadn’t been yet; and two, I still needed to get ice cream from Namja Town! We took the trains over to Ikebukuro and had dinner at Sunshine City before making our way towards Namja Town. We were really stuffed from dinner, so we ended up spending an hour or so touring all of Namja Town before getting ice cream at the Ice Cream City upstairs. After waiting a whole year, I finally had my hands on one of the 300+ flavours of ice cream!!

There was a lot of packing left to do when we got back, so we laid all our four suitcases out and spent the rest of the night packing. We even had to individually drag our suitcases downstairs to the lobby to weigh everything, cause our suitcases were getting quite heavy. It was tedious, but it had to be done!

The next morning we woke up early and got breakfast at the hotel for the first time. It was still pricey at 1500¥ a person, but since it was our last day we decided to splurge a little. The buffet breakfast was quite nice, but I think I will miss buying food from the am/pm across the street even more!

We finished checking out of the hotel and got our luggage sorted at the reception desk. We were going to take the Airport Limousine later on in the afternoon, so the hotel was going to keep our luggage while we enjoyed the last few hours out in Tokyo. We didn’t have anything planned, but I had wanted to go back to Ebisu again, since we had only gone at night the previous time. So we walked towards Shinjuku and got on the train to Ebisu.

Ebisu was really peaceful and quiet in the morning. We took our time and got all the pictures we wanted from the Clock Square, then made our way around the area. We stumbled across a little shrine tucked off to the side and took pictures there, then looped around and went inside Mitsukoshi and browsed through the aisles. It was a nice morning, so we just enjoyed ourselves as much as possible. We grabbed a quick snack at the McDonald’s there, which surprisingly, was the first time I actually had something ‘North American’ in Japan. I did pretty well throughout my trip then! (Although I had been terribly craving pasta earlier in the week.)

Sadly, we headed back to the hotel afterwards to grab our luggage and boarded the bus to the airport. I was trying my best to keep my eyes open throughout the bus ride so I could take in more of Tokyo, but my exhaustion finally caught up and I woke as we got to the airport.

The airport was busy and there were huge lineups at the checkin counters. I was frantically trying to find the Softbank counter at the airport to return my cellphone and I was panicking cause I thought we wouldn’t have enough time to get checked in. It was only after that I saw that our flight was delayed by two hours!!

Well, at least that bought us another two hours in Japan!

We couldn’t do much since we were already at the airport, but we took our time and got a bowl of udon at one of the restaurants and did some last minute shopping at the duty frees. Nothing particularly exciting, but the extra time made it more relaxing and was a nice end to the vacation. =)
