Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls

Now that I’ve gotten through all my vacation entries, I can finally catch up on more recent stuff. Back in March my family and I spent a day at Niagara Falls to watch Richie Ren in concert. We found out about the concert months before and we were really lucky my mom’s friend managed to get us free tickets. Since the concert was on a Sunday and I had to work the next day, we ended up taking two cars to Niagara and staying the night.

Niagara is always fun whenever I go, but it’s been a while since I’ve gone in the winter. (March technically is spring, but there was snow everywhere so it was still winter for me.) After arriving early, my sis and I took a short walk towards the falls. It was still pretty cold out, but the air was crisp and it was amazing seeing the falls covered in a blanket of white. When we made it back to Fallsview, we ended up meeting my parents in line for the buffet inside the casino.

Not long after we finished eating, it was time for the show. I might have been one of the handful of people who brought a light stick to the concert. The funny thing is – my light stick had the name ‘MAYDAY’ written across it. LOL. I really hope Richie didn’t mind that I used a light stick from his label mates. Hehe.

I had been listening to Richie’s old songs for the past two weeks to prepare for his concert, but I only managed to recognize a handful of the ones he sang. Luckily he did sing one of his more recent songs, so I actually knew the lyrics. He didn’t have a band touring with him this time, so he brought the members from MP魔幻力量 to play for him. I seriously had no idea who they were and thought they were just his opening band. I had to scramble to learn a few of their songs prior to the show, but it was wasted because they didn’t even sing any of their own songs. LOL.

Richie’s concert was actually a lot of fun. I’ve never seen old people (sorry I use that term loosely) actually get up from their seats to dance to the music. My arms even got a workout from waving the light stick around! Haha. The part where he sang 對面的女孩看過來 was the cutest ever. He made the audience do hand motions to the song and it was hilarious watching everyone follow his instructions.

The concert itself was short, only an hour and a half. Everyone cleared out pretty quickly when it was over, since most people probably had to catch a bus back home. My sister and I ended up lingering outside the concert hall hoping to catch a glimpse of Richie and the band. For some reason after every single Asian concert at Fallsview, all the artistes tend to eat at the same Chinese restaurant for their celebratory dinner. (I know of this from general experience, haha.) We totally missed Richie coming out of the theatre because he came through the elevators, but I did see some members of MP come out.

I admit it’s a little creepy asking random band members, who you don’t even know their individual names, to take photos with you. However, because I have no shame, I asked two of them for photos. LOL. Actually they were really nice, even though I asked in such poor mandarin. I totally failed at getting a photo with Richie himself, because he pretty much fled the restaurant the moment he was done. His entourage also converged upon him in a protective bubble as they escorted him out. It was kinda amusing. =P

Anyway, I had a really great time at Niagara. Too bad I had to leave so early the next morning because I totally could have bumped into all of them again during breakfast. Haha. It was a great show and definitely a little reminder of Asia back home. =)
