Bye bye Kaohsiung

Bye bye Kaohsiung

For our last day in Kaohsiung, we grabbed a quick breakfast at the hotel lobby, then finished packing all our bags. After checking out of our hotel, we took the train back towards Kaohsiung Arena, where we waited in line to eat at Din Tai Fung. It was a little scary remembering the line up from the previous day, so we were lucky we got there in time for their first seating.

Between the three of us we ordered around 7-8 dishes. Aside from their xiao long bao, I really liked their soups and their pork chop noodles. I was so stuffed from eating there that I was in a food coma for the rest of the day.

Later that afternoon we took the subway over to Kaisyuan Station. From there, we waited in line for a free shuttle bus that would take us to Dream Mall. As with most malls in Asia, Dream Mall has an enormous ferris wheel on the rooftop that you can’t possibly miss as you’re heading towards it. However, upon arriving at the mall, we noticed that it was quite deserted inside. Perhaps because it was a weekday, or perhaps because there’s a lot of construction still happening in the area, it was completely devoid of people. We went up to the rooftop amusement park first to ride the ferris wheel, then took our time to go through the shops. Later my sister grabbed a bubble tea from the food court while we finished the rest of our cheesecake. I was too full from lunch to eat anything, but it was nice to rest our feet.

Afterwards we took the shuttle bus back towards the station, then headed towards our hotel to grab our bags. Then it was directly to the airport. We were lucky to be flying business class again because we got passes to sit inside the Dragonair lounge. During the flight we were served a full dinner. This time I was able to eat a little and even enjoyed a glass of champagne. =)

Overall our trip to Kaohsiung was really fun. I think three days is a good duration to explore the city. My one regret was overeating during all my meals, because I didn’t want to eat for a good three days after returning to HK. I would love to travel there again if I have the chance (especially to see Mayday in concert!). Let’s hope I get to explore the rest of Taiwan on my next travels!
