36 Hours in HK
So…after coming back from Fukuoka, I was due back at the airport in around 36 hours. The morning after landing in HK, I had to completely repack my luggage for our flight to Taiwan the next morning. After getting laundry and stuff out of the way, I headed down to the bank to withdraw all my money from my BoC account. (The one perk I have for being a permanent resident – FREE government money!) However the money was immediately transferred back to my uncle to pay for our flight and hotel to Kaohsiung. (It was extremely short lived. Haha)
After having a simple lunch at home with my grandma, my sister and I made our way out. I was desperately seeking a place to get another haircut, so I ended up going across the street and getting it cut at an extremely sketchy salon. Luckily this guy knew what he was doing and it only cost me a fraction of the price I paid a week ago. I’m never trusting someone named Open to cut my hair ever, EVER again. (T_T)
For the remainder of the day we took the subway to Causeway and shopped at Times Square. Dinner that night we headed over to Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons hotel. I had really wanted to check out the restaurant because it has three Michelin stars. As expected, the view, the food and the service was stellar. However, when the bill came it averaged out to around $100 per person. We didn’t even order really fancy abalone/shark fin/bird nest stuff, so it was a little painful forking over my money.
Anyway, the last thing I did that night was go out to the mall to buy a pair of shoes for our Taiwan trip. (Since I had ruined my favourite pair of boots during our time in Fukuoka). One thing I learned about spending CNY in Hong Kong is that I have to follow all the traditional customs. That means not getting haircut for a month after CNY and not buying shoes for a month. (Well what my grandma doesn’t know can’t hurt her…hehe.)
That about wraps up my 36 hours in HK. Up next – new adventures in Kaohsiung!
