Bye bye Winter!

Bye bye Winter!

For our final day, we pretty much spent our time in transit. We only managed to catch a couple hours of sleep after returning from the aurora viewing, but we had no choice as we needed to catch our flight to Edmonton in the morning. In some ways I will miss this view from our hotel room.

Yellowknife

The airport in Yellowknife is pretty small, so it didn’t really take long to get checked in. Everyone pretty much had to wait in the airport lobby before we were allowed to pass through security, since they only let you to the gates about 30 minutes prior to boarding. Luckily there was one Quiznos inside the airport, so at least we managed to grab some food before we left.

The flight to Edmonton was pretty smooth and we landed earlier than expected. Unfortunately we had decided to take a later flight back to Toronto, so it meant we had around 4 hours to kill at the airport. Initially we thought maybe we could take a cab to West Edmonton Mall, but after calculating the costs, we decided to scrap those plans and just hang out inside the airport.

Lisa had mentioned to me that the airport had recently gone through a revamp, so all the stores looked quite new inside. After browsing through the wings, we then spent the next 2.5 hours killing time inside the Maple Leaf Lounge. LOL. Somehow we managed to get through the long wait and safely made our way back to Toronto.

Edmonton

Overall this trip to Alberta and Northwest Territories was a lot of fun. I’ve never really done a lot of traveling during the winter, so it was quite an eye opener for me. Seeing the aurora in person was definitely one of the highlights, something I can finally cross of my bucket list. Let’s hope the next time I travel across Canada, I will learn to pick some warmer dates to go. =P
