Wetland Park & Yuen Long

Wetland Park & Yuen Long

For day 2 of my travels(?) in HK, I played the role of a tourist and asked my uncle to take me to Wetland Park, which is about an hour and a half away from where we live. After stopping for breakfast at the 茶餐廳 down the street, we hopped on the MTR then switched to the local LRT which would take us to Wetland Park.

Once we arrived, we got in line for admission tickets. Since it was a weekday morning, there weren’t many visitors aside from a handful of school children and tour groups. My uncle and I spent a few hours inside exploring all the reserve. I think the most interesting area of the park was the Mangrove Boardwalk. There were so many tiny creatures coming out of the mud! However I didn’t see as many birds as I thought I would have. None of them flew towards the walkways or the boardwalk. They were all huddled in areas that were off limits to tourists. If I had known in advance I would have brought binoculars.

After leaving the park, we took the light rail towards Yuen Long. It was already past lunchtime, so my uncle took me to a famous noodle soup called 嘉麗園潮州粉麵 for lunch. We ordered two bowls of noodles to share: beef brisket noodles and ‘seven treasures’ rice noodles. Both were super yummy.

I was too full to eat dessert immediately right after, so we spent the next 30 minutes strolling up and down the streets of Yuen Long to kill time. Even for a weekday, everywhere we went the shops and restaurants seemed full of people. Finally we stopped by 佳記甜品B仔涼粉 to try their 涼粉. I ordered the 芒果涼粉 while my uncle ordered the 雜果涼粉. Technically we could have just gotten one to share because the bowls were humongous. But…we didn’t. Lol. They also have chicken wings and 腸粉 which are pretty popular snacks at the shop.

I’m pretty sure I could have spent the entire day eating in Yuen Long if given the chance. Maybe I’ll try to schedule that in for my next trip. =P
