I started off by going to the post office to mail off a parcel. Hong Kong is probably the only place outside of Canada where it’s easy for me to run errands. I love being able to get things done like a local and I feel like I can maximize my time doing other things when I’m allowed to be productive.

It was around 10:00am by the time I finished, so I hopped on the MTR to Central. I decided to explore the mid-level escalators and I was happy I made it all the way up to Victoria Prison, commonly known as Tai Kwun. Tai Kwun has been redeveloped into a cultural and shopping destination and a lot of art exhibitions are held inside the heritage buildings. It was nice stumbling upon it as it was also free entry inside.

After my stop there I went over to Lan Fong Yuen to buy their iconic iced milk tea. My last stop that day was to Cityplaza in Tai Koo, where I walked into a hair salon without an appointment to see if I could get a haircut. My uncle took a taxi out with me to Central for their in-town check-in, which was super convenient as I was able to drop off both suitcases at the Cathay counter. Then I took the train by myself to the airport, where I spent my last $61 on breakfast at Man Wah. The flight back was fine, although there was a huge gap between the two meal services that I had to keep asking for snacks in between. This was probably because I was tired and jet-lagged and needed fuel to keep going.

Overall this was such a whirlwind trip – I never would have imagined making it all the way to Australia. It’s crazy thinking how many hours I spent in the air. Even though I kept my schedule light with only one main activity a day, it was still ambitious given all the things that could have gone wrong. However I’m happy I got to spend time with family and explore an entirely new continent. Just next time, I won’t do it in under two weeks. =P

For my only full day in Hong Kong, I had a few hours to myself in the morning.
