After we finished, our first order of business was to head back to Pier 2 for the Mayday concert exhibit. When we got there it was still a little early, so I took the opportunity to stroll down the bicycle paths towards Lover’s Pier. I wish I had more time because the trail was actually quite lovely in the morning.

We headed back to the gallery after it opened and purchased our tickets for the exhibit. The guide at the entrance tried to explain to us what we would be seeing inside, but I was completely lost trying to understand him. I think he was speaking a mix of Mandarin and some Taiwanese dialect, so we made him give the instructions again in English. =P

I was actually quite surprised by how big the concert exhibit was. Since I’ve never been to their concerts in the past, I wasn’t familiar with their sets or costumes. I was impressed seeing how much planning went into their shows and the scale of their productions. One of my favourite exhibits was their B’in Love exhibit, where all the guests can experience having confetti fly around them. During their actual concerts, the confetti comes out as part of their ‘Tenderness’ song. While my confetti experience was short lived, it was still fun seeing myself surrounded by paper flakes.

After we finished going through the rooms, we ended up inside the theatre where they played a concert footage of them singing their ‘Noah’s Arc’ song in 3D. Before leaving the exhibit, I spent a small fortune buying their concert goods at their gift shop. I made sure I picked up enough light sticks to use at their Tokyo concert. =P

Since we were on a tight schedule, we skipped the other exhibits in Pier 2 and headed straight towards Banana Pier and Fisherman’s Wharf. After taking photos of the wharf, we went inside the shops at Banana Pier, where there was a small Banana Museum. After grabbing a few souvenirs from the shops, we were off again towards Sanduo Shopping District, where we would be taking a bus towards Lotus Lake.

By the time we arrived, it was already lunch time, so we grabbed a bite first inside the food court at the Mitsukoshi department store. I always love food courts in Asia because they have such a huge selection. I ended up ordering a meal with noodles, veggies and pork knuckles for only 135NT$. So cheap!

After lunch we timed our return to the bus stop and hopped on the bus to Lotus Lake. It felt like we were going in circles around the area before we finally arrived. Right from where we got off we could already see the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. The entire area was a mix of pavilions and temples. It was pretty hot outside, so we took our time walking down the street to see all the attractions. By the time we made it to the end of the street I was completely exhausted. We rested at a little tea shop and bought an extra large bubble tea to cool off.

After leaving Lotus Lake, we headed back towards the bus stop and switched over to the subway towards the Kaohsiung Arena. We spent the remainder of the afternoon shopping at the Hanshin department store. I lined up to buy cheesecake at Uncle Tetsu’s and ended up waiting for 30 minutes before I finally got to the front. It was so intense!

Later at night we headed over to Ruifeng to finally get our night market fill. (I made sure not to eat so much throughout the day just to save room for it!) The food was sooooo delicious! My favourite was getting hot pot on the streets where the tables were only two feet up from the ground. It was so cheap and so yummy! We ended up trying around 5 stalls but I still wished I could eat more.

On the way back to our hotel we stopped by the convenience store to buy drinks. One of my favourite things about convenience stores in Taiwan is that they sell tea eggs. You can smell it immediately walking through the doors. It’s one of those smells I miss whenever I go to the convenience stores here. (That and the alcohol. LOL.)

We strolled by the Love River as we made our way towards our hotel. Then it was dessert time! I finally got my taste of Uncle Tetsu’s. The cheesecake was so fuwafuwa it completely melts in your mouth. <3

I had a great second day in Kaohsiung.
