Mori Digital & Starbucks Roastery

Mori Digital & Starbucks Roastery

We had an early start the next morning as we had plans to meet up with a friend to visit the Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Odaiba. My friend had bought tickets ahead of time, but since it was a weekend we decided to get there before opening to avoid the crowds. I’ve heard stories of people who end up waiting in line for hours to see all the attractions, so it was definitely a smart move going early, as we were let inside even before the opening time!

The museum itself was really cool. As all the artwork is digital, everything is constantly moving as you explore the space. While it was like a maze going from room to room (the museum doesn’t give out maps), it was also satisfying discovering new things at each turn.

I think my favourite area was on the second floor where they had more interactive spaces. We lined up to try the trampoline and I went down the children’s slide three times! There’s also two areas where they give you colouring sheets to draw on and once they scan the sheets, the animals will come to life as digital projections. The cool thing was all the animals actually moved like real ones.

We also stopped by the tea shop where again it was another interactive experience. The moment the tea is poured into your cup flowers will start to bloom from inside. When you pick up your cup to drink, the petals will then fall off and disperse on the table. The attention to detail was amazing no matter where we went.

Once we finish our teas it was already past noon and the museum was starting to fill up with people. We ended up having to wait in line for two attractions – floating nest and the lanterns. That was the only time we had to line up to get inside the rooms. By the time we were finally done at the museum it was close to 2:30pm and we still hadn’t eaten lunch. We ended up heading over to Venus Fort for a fancy lunch…inside the food court. =P

Afterwards we made our way over to Nakameguro where I had wanted to check out the new Starbucks Roastery. Even though I knew well in advance that we needed timed tickets to get inside, I was a little hopeful it wouldn’t be longer than a 3-hour wait. Well… that clearly didn’t happen because there were still 50 people ahead of us right before our dinner reservation at 7:30pm. LOL

The cherry blossoms were almost all gone in Nakameguro, but we still had a good time stopping by a cafe in the afternoon. Then we had a nice dinner at a chicken nabe restaurant. After dinner we decided to try our luck at Starbucks again and we were amazed there was no line to get inside! I guess the ideal time to go is an hour before closing. =P

Starbucks Roastery is absolutely stunning. There’s four floors total and each floor is dedicated to something different. I spent more time on the third floor as it was their Teavana level. I ended up ordering a hibiscus mango-rita. All six of us actually ordered something different and we kept passing our cups around to try out all the flavours. It was such a nice night out that I’m glad we ended the evening relaxing on the patio while overlooking the river.
