Asia 2013

Asia 2013

I took my long awaited trip to Asia last month! It’s been more than a year since I’ve stopped by Asia and I was really excited to do some sightseeing during the lunar new year. Our timing was a little tight, but that was because we packed a lot into our itinerary for the first two weeks. =P

The flight to HK itself was pretty uneventful. Luckily the time passed by pretty quickly after watching three movies. By the time we landed in HK, we took the MTR over to Central then grabbed a taxi back to Chai Wan. I was already tired by the time we got there, but we freshened up and ate a home cooked meal with my grandma. After dinner we took the bus over to Hung Hom where we would be watching Raymond Lam’s A Time 4 You concert.

A Time 4 You

I should mention that watching a concert right after coming off of a 15 hour flight is a pretty bad idea. However I was only interested in the whole concert experience at Hung Hom (a pretty famous venue) and not so much the performer himself, so I guess that was alright. Haha

Anyway the concert itself was decent. I was pretty much dozing throughout half the concert, but considering I only paid for rooftop seats it was okay. After the concert we bused it back home and finally got a good night’s sleep.

The next day was a bit of a write off. We went out for dim sum and then shopped at bit at Kwun Tong. We bought tickets for an afternoon screening of the Grandmaster, which I was realllllly looking forward to seeing. However there were two things that almost ruined the movie –

The Grandmaster

One, for some reason the screening we went to didn’t have English subtitles. It’s not like I’m completely clueless without subtitles, but it would have helped immensely if I were reading both English and Chinese subs.

Two and most importantly, there was the world’s most annoying women chatting on her phone throughout the ENTIRE movie. When her phone rang during the opening credits I let it go. But when she continued to talk while the movie played, I got so mad I ended up complaining to the staff outside. By all means I know the staff did all they could, but there really wasn’t any way to make her shut up unless they sent someone to sit beside her during the entire movie. She would just start talking again when the staff completed their rounds. Luckily she left the theatre about 30 minutes before the movie was over, but it already ruined the experience for me. I don’t know if the other 10 people inside the theatre were equally upset as I was, but why the hell would you pay money to sit in the dark and chat on your phone??? Anyway, I was not impressed.

I was also not impressed with the really retarded haircut I ended up getting later that afternoon. I won’t get into details here, but let’s just say this guy really didn’t know how to cut hair. I had to wait about a week before I could get another haircut to salvage it. =S

So overall my first full day in HK was pretty crappy all around. The temperature also felt really cold because there was no central heating where we were staying, so I was pretty much shivering while indoors. However I would only be in HK for a day before flying out to Kyushu the next morning. Real adventures begin in the next entry!
